An Introduction to Water Use Regulations, Landscaping, & Functional Turf
August 25, 2023
As you recall from the DAC meeting, there were a lot of comments regarding watering, not watering, lawn mowing, increasing HOA’s, etc. Our General Manager did a good job trying to explain the situation but it is hard to accept the bad news that the emerald green lawns we all once enjoyed are going to be a thing of the past and that we need to move forward with the new information and regulations we have. I found a video presentation on our Resident Portal and found it quite informative regarding the water situation that we find ourselves in and what we are doing to address the matter. My hope is that you find it helpful as well. I also hope that we can use it as a foundation to better prepare us for the next steps in the evolution of our Villages Landscaping.
I attended a meeting today where I suggested that this video be placed in the rotation on our Public Access Channel so it can also be viewed on TV instead of on your computer. I saw it shown on TV last night so I expect that next week’s paper will have info regarding times when it will be shown. Maybe sooner if they include it in a “Fast Lane” announcement.
This Link https://resident.thevillagesgcc.com/resource-files/videos/ will get you to the page where the video is posted. Fortunately, it is the newest so it is at the top of the list. If you don’t have access to the Resident Portal, reach out to me directly and we will see if we can put you in touch with someone that can get you set up with that.
In the coming weeks and months, we will be asked to participate in surveys and meetings regarding the plant types, the feel of the landscaping, and other amenities such as public art, par-course equipment, seating areas, places for games, dog parks, BBQ’s, tables, etc. At the same time, we will be working through our Fire Risk Assessment Report and implementation so everything on the landscape side will also need to be Fire Safe as well! I would hope that we have strong participation in these upcoming processes in order to ensure that we have a final product that reflects the desires of a majority of our residents, and not just the desires of a few who participated.
A Villages Wide Fire Risk Assessment meeting is tentatively set for September 28th from 4-6 PM. More info to follow on that as it becomes available. Our Highland Village Specific Fire Risk Assessment is currently undergoing revisions and I expect it to be issued soon. We will post a link to it once we have it in final form.
Thanks for your time reviewing this email and I hope you view the Video because it really answers a lot of questions.
